I Was Being Nice To Him

The other morning I was looking for Chase, it was time to head to school, and I found him on the floor in his bedroom with Zeke. Zeke was lying on his side, Chase was lying on top of him, reading a book. It was the cutest picture.

When I asked him how in the world he got Zeke to lie so still, his answer was, “I was being nice to him.” Ummmm … interesting concept.

Usually Zeke is wound for sound, once he wakes up. He never lies still for any length of time and surely not long enough for Chase to snuggle him.

But that morning, Chase somehow calmed him down enough to let him snuggle close. And Chase was a happy camper. All he wants to do is snuggle with Zeke. He loves that crazy dog so much and most of the time, Zeke is too busy chasing after me to pay any attention to Chase.

My thought for today is this, when we are kind to others, it can change their attitude towards us. I know you’ve heard the expression, ‘Kill them with kindness.’ Have you ever tried to be mean to someone who was being kind to you? It just doesn’t work. Kindness is infectious …

I looked up what Jesus had to say about being nice to others and found this:

“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

I think in this dog eat dog world … we need to be more like Jesus and be nice to others … hey it might start catching on!

Father, it is so difficult to turn the other cheek, to be nice to those who are unkind to me. Help me Lord to follow the example that you have set. To be nice to others, regardless of their attitudes towards me.

I love You Jesus.
In Your Name Pray,

God Bless You!

I am amazed at how Jesus was able to do this! When I was in high school, I played tennis. There was one doubles team that my partner and I played a lot. The girls on that team were not very friendly and the competition was always intense. While we won all of our games against them (*smile*), it was always a close game. We took on the principle of “Kill them with kindness.” However, the love that Jesus had was never there. We would be overly “sweet” to them, but it was obvious (looking back now) that it was fake. The only thing we succeeded in doing was to aggravate them and make them more aggressive. I think we focused more on the “kill” part of the theory than the “kindness” part. Now, I realize that Jesus was genuinely kind and loving to everyone, even the ones (me) who put him on the cross to die.

    Thanks for the reminder!
