A Warm Glow

You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl,
instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everone in the house.
     Matthew 5:14,15     (NIV)
Once upon a time there was a young girl who got lost in the forest.  She was trying to find her way home, but the path became dark and littered with all sorts of obstacles and she was so mixed up and turned around, she didn’t know which way to go.
As she stumbled through the darkness, she came upon a house .  But there were no lights on in the house, it was dark and uninviting.  She wanted to go in, find shelter from the cold, but when she knocked on the door, no one answered.  She kept peering in the windows, but there was no sign of life in the house, so she moved on.
The path she was traveling on was quite dangerous, on either side were steep gullies and the poor girl would tumble down with each misplaced step.  She was so tired and weary when in the distance she saw a light.  She headed towards the light, eager for warmth and shelter.  But as she approached, she realized that the house she was heading towards was on fire.  It was a blaze of flames, willing to consume whatever was in it’s path.  She could not even get close to the house, the heat spewing out was scorching and blistering, even from afar.
So she moved on, ready to give up … tired and discouraged that she’d ever find safety from the night.  When she thought she could not take another step, she glanced up and directly ahead of her, she saw a light through the trees.  She headed towards it,  the warmth coming from the house was like a magnet drawing her to it’s radiant glow.
As she approached the front door, it swung open for her and through the entry she could see a fire glowing in the fireplace.   Upon entering the front room, the warmth spread through her body from her head to her toes,  it was so inviting, so comforting.  The girl couldn’t image heading back out into the darkness …  she knew she was home.
Father God, help me to be a warm glow to others.  To show them the love and comfort that You have for them.  Lord, I don’t want to be cold and dark, nor all consuming and burning … but rather that warm glow that draws them near, to find the peace and comfort You have for them.
I Love You Jesus.
     In Your Name I Pray,
God Bless You!
